Day 753: A Big Day Out!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

G’day Shredders,

I am hammered!

Today I circumnavigated Brisbane city (with a little help from a RiverCat!) with a good friend of mine who had just arrived in town. We walked from the top of Brisbane down to the waterfront, over to the Botanical gardens, across to South Bank Parklands (17 hectares of land) and finished in Chinatown!

All told, I reckon we walked about 10 km’s! As I still had a case of the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) from my recent training sessions my quads, hammies and calves were definitely feeling it by the end of the day!

The only problem was I didn’t bring my camera today so I don’t have any personal pics, but below is a picture of South Bank Parklands. A great place to spend Sunday afternoons!

G’day Shredders,

Today is a momentous day for my very good friend (who I met in person back in March 2008 in New York!), Suzette from Quest For Success Blog. That’s right! Suzette cracked a major milestone today, 600 days of shredding and blogging!

Congratulations Suzette, you have displayed remarkable dedication, persistence and patience throughout your weight loss journey. Not only have you lost a stunning 79 lbs. over your journey, you have also managed to keep the weight off for a very long period of time (often the hardest part of all).

You have also been a rock of support and a fountain of positivity for all Shredders by selflessly giving of your time and and energy in posting encouraging comments on our blogs. You are a real life, real time success story who is an inspiration to many Shredders and blog readers the world over.

Thank you Suzette, I look forward to seeing you hit your Mission 40 Dream Body on August 11, 2009!

G’day Shredders,

As you may recall back on Day 731 a Japanese TV Crew flew in from overseas to interview me on the 2-Year anniversary of RTP Blog.

Today, I got confirmation from the director of the Fuji TV Show, “Unbelievable”, that my story will be broadcast this Thursday, December 4, 2008 from 8:00PM!

My friend who lives in Japan said they saw a preview of this upcoming episode (including my 84 day time-lapse video) when they were watching the same show last night! They also checked the TV ratings guide for Japan and discovered that this show is the 13th highest rating show in Japan, which means there will be approximately 20,000,000 people watching!

Here is a screen capture of the preview below from Fuji TV’s website:

Until tomorrow…

Catch ya,

AJ

P.S. If you’d like to see something “unbelievable” right now check out the comments on this post from Day 715: The Daily Double Is Coming My Way (the producer of the Fuji TV show made her initial enquiry via a comment on my blog!)

P.P.S. Below is a TV clip on my weight loss story from another Japanese TV show aired back on Day 347: NHK Clip Goes Live! It will be interesting to see how the new one turns out!

Day 750: Important Message

Posted by: | Comments (0)

G’day Shredders,

Thank you for your awesome response to yesterday’s Day 749: Pain Vs. Regret- A Simple Mindset Shift That Changed My Life Post.

If you haven’t read this post yet I highly recommend you do as the comments made by Mark, Celina, Rafael, Ron, Lynda, Suzette, Thomas, Mike, Angie and Jason really hit the nail on the head in regards to the multi-faceted role that “pain” plays in a full-blooded physique transformation.

Today I have a very important message for my fellow Shredder, BFL Champion and long-time online buddy, Dougal from Mind Body SuperFit Blog. Last night, Dougal’s ongoing recovery from a serious operation presented a new challenge that Dougal explains in detail on his Road Less Travelled Blog Post

Dougal, the way you have continually fought back and refused to give up has inspired me and many other people from all corners of the globe. I know I speak for all Shredders by saying our thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through this extremely challenging period of your life. See you again soon mate.

Cheers,

Adam Waters, NESTA-CPT

G’day Shredders,

Today I’d like to share with you a simple mindset shift that helped me transform my life on Mission 1.

The picture slide to the right is from July 22, 2003 (the lowest point of my life) and March 24, 2007.

There is a lot of pain (and joy) in this picture slide. The pain I speak of is not just emotional, there was also a lot of physical pain I went through to transform my body in that time period.

July 2003: Pain Dictated My Life

When I cast my mind back to July 2003 I remember quite clearly how much pain I felt daily due to the shape I was in and the fact that my life was going nowhere. I still had a glimmer of faith that I could turn my life around but I knew the road was going to be long and hard.

At that time pain did dictate my life. Every day I would wake up feeling miserable and frustrated with myself that another day had passed and I still hadn’t taken action on my long-held dreams of re-transforming my physique (and life).

Then, every 6 months or so an event would trigger me into action. I would get up the next day and decide to take action (this is why I have so many “before pictures”) and go “hell for leather” in the gym for a few weeks or months.

I would always make some progress during those “failed challenges” but inevitably the pain I felt in the gym (and in my mind) was not commensurate with the results I was getting.

My Life-Changing Mindset Shift

I continued this cycle for over 3 years until one fateful day (November 8, 2006) when I decided to make a simple mindset shift. Instead of letting pain dictate my life I decided to channel the pain I felt into my training and nutritional discipline.

In fact, I still remember the first set of my first weight training session on Mission 1. I remember staring into the mirror for one whole minute before I started on the first set of Barbell Bent Over Rows.

I told myself in no uncertain terms:

You are here for a reason, it is time for you to regain control of your life starting RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. You are going to channel all the pain you have felt for the last 3 years into this rep, set and workout session. The truth is, you deserve this pain. It has to be this way because you and you alone are responsible for where you are right now, and only you can turn it around.

After my little pep talk I got straight into my workout. For the first time in a very long time I remained laser-focused during a whole session. I kept the pain front and center in my mind and channeled this pain into every single rep and set of that workout.

As my body started transforming in front of my very eyes (evidenced by the daily pictures I took) I slowly began to redefine the meaning of pain in my mind. As I progressed throughout Mission 1 the pain I came to realize that the pain I felt for that one hour in the gym was nothing compared to the emotional pain I had endured for the previous 3 years.

The Choice Is Yours…

I now realize that in life pain is inevitable. The only choice you have is whether to meet pain on your terms or whether you let the pain you feel dictate your life.

Your body is a perfect metaphor for this idea, that being you can either choose 1 hour of pain every day and live in the body of your dreams OR you can choose do nothing (and feel no physical pain) and live in the body of your nightmares.

The bottom line is this:

Is it more “painful” to take the daily actions required (physical, financial, spiritual, academic) to live the life of your dreams OR is it less painful not to take the daily actions required and live a life of regret?

I know which pain I would rather feel. I’ll take my pain in small doses every day and live the life of my dreams because that pain is temporary while regret is forever.

How about you?

Cheers,
Adam Waters, NESTA-CPT

P.S. Today was another rainy day in paradise! Fair dinkum, I haven’t seen this much rain in donkey’s years!
