Day 651: Cracking 5%?

In yesterday’s post I revealed my RTP Shred 2.0 goal to crack 5% bodyfat for this shred mission and received a great question from my Fellow Shredder,  Christy: You Are Enough

I’m with Lynda, but I know there’s no stopping you when you’re on a mission–LITERALLY. lol

But, when you say crack 5%, you don’t mean by too significant a number, right? Because I think there’s like a 2-4% body fat for guys that is essential for joints and stuff or something. I worry and nag. But the sleep nagging seemed to work. ;)

Thank you Christy for your great question and supportive message! According to Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle by Tom Venuto, ”Essential body fat” for men to maintain basic body functions is between 2 to 3%.  

Tom also mentions that while hitting sub 5% bodyfat levels is “par for the course” when the objective is to become as lean as possible it is also unrealistic to maintain this low level of bodyfat over a long period of time. 

In my case I believe cracking 5% bodyfat will be “mandatory” in order to get my last two abs to really pop out. On my previous Mission 4 Shred I got pretty close to making it happen (at around 6.5% bodyfat) so this time around I’ve decided to go all out and get the job done once and for all!

    I have no doubt that you’ll be there soon bud. Looking at your eating plan I have to ask how you manage to eat the same food every day..with minor variations. You remind me of Carlos when asked by a competitor at Mr USA what he was eating, he replied Tuna…breakfast, lunch and supper, and if he wanted a snack it was…yup, tuna. The competitor replied ‘Yoy can have it.’ and right there Carlos knew he had him. You know what you want and you’ll do anything you need to do to get there. Very focussed, very goal oriented and ‘an unstoppable mindset.’ The only way my friend. You are unstoppable.

    I agree with dougal. A strict eating plan will be the key combined with hard shredding.
    I deffinetely look forward to seeing your seix pack in its glory(and mine soon i hope =P)

    By the way adam, when you take your daily pictures, do you use a different type of lighting somethimes? todays pic is a bit darker, than the before pic. Im just wondering, since you do the photos at about the same time every day(according to your accountability plan)

    Man, you already have killer abs that would make most people very envious of you. But we are going to see those bottom abs popping right out at us because you are determined to do so and it will happen. Good luck Adam you hard work is a testament to the way you look, which is fantastic.

    Thanks Dougal, I agree 100%, an unstoppable mindset like what Carlos has is the key to overcoming setbacks and challenges. Once you get “in the zone” the results become inevitable. Shred on mate!

    Hi Danny, you are not too far away man! I use the same lighting for all pics but sometimes they just turn out a bit different (no sophisticated lighting here, just my house lights)

    Thanks for clearing up my concerns! I’m glad that under 5% isn’t going to endanger your health and that you won’t stay under 5 for lengthy periods of time. What a challenge to get that low. Thank god women need more body fat. You wouldn’t know the magic number for us ladies with you? No need to really answer, I’ve got a lot of leeway. :)

    What do you mean you’ve got to try out a raw smoothie one day? Have you forgotten my lean mean green tastebud threshold smoothie?!? Haha – I guess it’s not as memorable as I thought. :)
